I have already started with the no less than 3/16 of an inch body armor, also looking into lifts for possibly the end of the year!
If I am one of your selected few to go with you, I hopefully will be ready at that time. 😍
Here's a plan I just dug up from way back in the day with my old Jeep club.
Rubicon Trail adventure:
Day 1: Arrival and Preparation
Arrive at Loon Lake: This is our starting point for the trail. You can camp at the Loon Lake Campground to get a good night's rest before starting the trail.
Vehicle Check: Ensure your vehicle is ready for the trail. Check your tires, fluids, and recovery gear.
Day 2: Loon Lake to Buck Island Lake
Start Early: Begin the trail at Loon Lake. The first part of the trail includes some challenging obstacles like the Granite Bowl.
Lunch Break: Take a break at Ellis Creek, a scenic spot along the trail.
Camp at Buck Island Lake: Set up camp at Buck Island Lake, which is known for its beautiful views and serene environment.
Day 3: Buck Island Lake to Rubicon Springs
Continue the Trail: Head towards Rubicon Springs, navigating through more challenging sections like Big Sluice.
Lunch Break: Enjoy a picnic lunch along the way.
Camp at Rubicon Springs: This is a popular camping spot with historical significance and natural beauty.
Day 4: Rubicon Springs to Tahoma
Final Stretch: Complete the trail by driving towards Tahoma. You'll encounter Cadillac Hill, one of the more famous obstacles.
End at Tahoma: Celebrate a successful trip at the end of the trail near Lake Tahoe.
I will say this, if you've never run the Rubicon before, Loon Lake to Buck Island in a single day might be a stretch, even if you take the bypasses. Since I haven't done it in like 35-40 years, I'm sure it's changed a lot. Then add in I've never done it in a Bronco before, well, I wouldn't take my advice on much at this point.
Just looked up the mileage out there - 2050 miles and 30 hrs of driving. I was hoping I could possibly do the trip in a week but that would be really tough to do.
