    New to the Forum

I just found out about this forum and I seem to keep looking at Bronco stuff. While I have a 93 Bronco I bought new, I never knew there were so many Bronco people out there until I added my 23 Bronco to the stable.
I am not new to four wheeling, I have done my tent penance back when overlanding was called camping. I have owned and wheeled my Willy's jeep for over 40 years. It's hard days are behind it now since the last frame up.
This new Bronco will let us add to our adventures.
It is a 23 2 door Badlands, V6, Lux package. Click image for larger version

Welcome to the forum, Lots O Fords! Great to have you here. I'm pretty much a noob, so I may lean heavily on everyone with lots of off-roading experience. I've got a lot of confidence-building to do, but with the right group, I'm sure I'll catch on. I've got a '23 Bronco Badlands Squatch as well, now I've just got to justify it. LOL

A BIG Congratulations on your new Steed Lots O Fords and Welcome to Broncooffroad!!!
Glad you were able to find a little more room in your stable for this amazing Bronco, you definitely picked the right Bronco to throw the Stirups on and saddle up for that amazing off-road trip you plan on doing someday in the wilderness.
The only regret I have when I finally received my Bronco, was that I wish I didn’t get the Big Bend, I should’ve ordered the Badlands like you did, I just never expected to meet such great people and do some of the Rock Climbing that I have done with them!!!
Sounds like you still have this “93” Bronco, hopefully you can post some pictures someday!!!
I have also been off-roading for some time now, and had a 1986 CJ-7 Laredo with about 11” of lift riding on 40” Gumbo Monster Mudder tires, bought the Jeep brand new, then a year later got into an accident, and at that point I knew the alignment would never be the same, so I lifted it and did heavy Off-Roading with it, and enjoyed every minute with it….
I also have a 1947 Willy’s Jeep that I restored with a neighbor, had it for about 7 years then gave it to my son, because he wanted to finish restoring it, he’s about half done now and someday it will look “Great.”

      Anyhoo!!!

Once again welcome to Broncooffroad, and Congratulations on your 2023 Bronco!!!

Thanks guys. When I finished the grille Sunday, I rounded up just my fords for a shot. The 93 bronco was my first new vehicle. Now it has over 300,000 miles on it. It was our primary vehicle and it had it's custom paint done within the first 30 days, like the new one. I had it's chrome grill removed and made it white and they thought I was nuts. Its been to multiple states, lots of camping, several runs when I was involved is a four wheeling club. The kind of club where we meet every month and planed our monthly trips. The winch was added much later when a night run on a moonless night had it in a precarious situation. And while sitting there at a severe angle, I decided I would like a winch. Sometimes the bronco would flat tow the willy's if the run was a bit more challenging.

The sway bar disconnect was the option that had me narrowed down to a badlands or HEL. The lockers were a must have. My jeep is locked front and rear as well. I stepped away from organized 4 wheeling and got into track days with my striped cars.
The new bronco has me excited for some more off road adventures. Even my dually has done some off road adventures.
I recall when the CJ7's came out how many of us thought those are too big to wheel.... lol

Just a very nice collection of vehicles you have there!!!
Here’s a little tid bit that you may or may not know, ever since the Jeep came out “yes, even as far back as 1947” that a stock Jeep has 7 openings in the grill, and even as of today they have 7 slots where air passes through to the radiator!!!
pictures from my 2022 Jeep Willys I used to have!!!

Nice jeep. I mockingly asked my fried, do the new Willy's come with all the oil leaks the old ones had? Only joking, I know they are sooooo much nicer.
Now on the grill thing, yes Jeep has carried on the 7 slot grill since 1946. here is more trivia. The 1941 WWII Willy's MB's stared with a slat grille and when ford was contracted to build the Willys jeep during the war, (GPW) they created a stamped grill to speed up production. It was 9 slot grille. So all the WWII jeeps were 9 slot. After the war is when Willy's changed to the 7 slot, primarily because of legal battels between Ford and Willys, surrounding the now popular jeep that neither one named. Imagine making a vehicle and the manufacture doesn't name it, and the public does.
And did you know, the very first jeep was named the Quad. The name Jeep did not exist when willy's made the prototype for the Army.

Makes you wonder if any of that had to do with the design of the Bronco grille in 1966.

I do know a lot about the history of the Jeep, I found a lot of it out after I gave the CJ2A to my son, now he is with a club that talks about the Willys and swap parts.
However……I did not know about the first Jeep called the Quad!!!
            Interesting!!!

It is so cool your son is reviving history. I got my 47 jeep in 75 and went nuts with the history. I think buying a jeep as my first vehicle had a lot to do with me becoming a mechanic...lol I did lots of work on the old flat fenders, Then when a buddy bought a 45 Willys MB and we restored exactly as it was in 1945. Down to how the paint was mixed and made, with kerosene as I recall. He went crazy on the detail. He was upset he couldn't get horse hair for the seat padding like original. Had to settle for a synthetic replacement.
So here is some trivia that connects to our new broncos from then.

During WWII when Ford was contracted to build the Willy's jeep because the war department did not think Willys could meet demand, Ford put the "Ford" script on the bolt heads, kind of like our Bronco's having Bronco Script on some bolts. Ford also stamped FORD on the rear. The Army, said, no. No manufacture indicators were to be on it. So only the 41 Ford GPW's had ford on them someplace. So except for a few GPW's with Ford on them, none of the WWII jeeps had the name Willy's or Jeep on them

Then in 45 when Willys-Overland was making their civilian Jeep, they put the word Jeep on the tool box and that created legal battles. One of the reasons you always see the R after the word Jeep. One of the stories of the Jeep name is it came from GP (general purpose) and Ford was the GPW.

So Ford has been slugging it out with Jeep, before it was "Jeep". Think about our Goodyear Wrangler tires, that do not say Wrangler.

And both Ford and Willy's stole the idea from American Bantam who made the first prototype for the Army. Ford and Willys seen it demonstrated and then built their prototypes (they cheated).

So think about it. Depending on how the legal battels of the 40's could have come out, we could all be driving Ford jeeps and competing with the Quad

That looks amazing sitting side by side, what is the color of the Jeep?
They look so close to being the same color, even though that would be impossible.

I know this is a Bronco site, but it never hurts to talk about how we all got going in 4 Wheelin’!!!
I know about the Wrangler not on any of our Broncos, 🤣 but that is some interesting information.

Here is a picture of my 1986 CJ7 obviously from AMC until the turn of the year, I had a nice gold plate on the inside of my Jeep, stating “Last of the Great Breed,” it was kind of cool….
This is the picture after I did all the lifting myself!!!

See if I can remember what I did….
            1 1/2” shekels
            2” Body lift
            3” Spring Lift
Reversed the Axles - gave me an additional 5”
which gave me 11 1/2” of lift, and that’s how I got my 40” GMM tires to fit…..

OMG what a beast. Back when we wheeled the old Willys, Jeeps like that made me so jealous. A top, windows, doors and heat. That is a neat jeep. Cant imagine how difficult getting in was. Especially off camber on a trail. Bring a parachute.

I was young back then, so it made it pretty easy to get in, the “wife,” that’s another story!!! 🤣

One of my biggest regrets, selling it so we could get the house of our dreams, and we’re still in it today!!!

Just a little more history that my Son sent to me, after I told him that there’s someone out there with as much knowledge as you!!! 😉

The army gave Willys the bid over Ford and Bantam because of their engine. The Willys “Go Devil” engine had 61 horsepower, where the Ford and Bantam engines were in the upper 40s for horsepower. The army needed more jeeps than Willy’s could produce, so they agreed to give their plans to Ford to make Jeeps too. Those ones are called GPW (GP is Jeep and the W meant Willys design). The original Willys model was MB.

Both the original Ford and Willys had 9 slot grilles. They switched to seven slots when Willys started making Civilian Jeeps in 1945.

Not sure if you have ever seen this but I still have it when my son sent it to me a year ago….

I love this stuff. I am always excited to see an agri jeep and some of the 46 jeeps had a mix of civilian and military pieces.
The ag jeep has a 3 on the tree. Those are rare.
